Flapper’s Sutures

Flapper is feeling pretty good since his surgery on August 4th, but some of the internal sutures are still bothering him. They poke through to his insides and then urates stick to them, causing swelling and irritation.

So next Monday, Flapper will have a short time under anesthesia so Dr. Ford can use an endoscope to remove any sutures still inside his vent/cloaca. Hopefully this will help make Flapper more comfortable.

We asked Dr. Ford “is this normal?” and the answer was “no one has done this surgery on a duck before, so it’s hard to say what’s normal.”

All things considered, Flapper is doing great. He has gained some weight and is active. Also, some scar tissue inside seems to have decreased in size. If we can just get rid of those irritating sutures, he should be good for quite a while.

So hang in there, FlappyJack. Next week you should be feeling a little better. Keep your fingers crossed that this is the only time we’ll have to go in to get those darn sutures out.
Cheers,
Tiff

Oh boy, Flapper — we will be transmitting positive vibes your way. Please come back to us strong and healthy Monday afternoon.
Flap is not going to let a little problem like this keep him down. He’ll be flappin’ and ready for his fries on Monday evening, I’m sure.
flap hope you do good
I will be praying for Flapper for sure. I do that all the time for my cats when they have problems. I love the photo with flapper and his pendent. that is so cute. I have Flap marked in my calendar for monday so I won’t forget about his endoscopy. take care Tif, i know this is harder on you than it is on the Flap guy.
Good Luck Flappinator. We are all thinking of you!!! Just think of fries…and all will be well with the universe.
I think you will do just fine, you in good hands with dr Ford and you’ve had lots of experience at the vets. You show ‘em Flapper! Good luck buddy, best wishes from your scovie friends in Holland:-)
I’m hoping things are going well for Flapper today (and Flapper’s mom – and Petunia too while we’re at it). The 11 pekins here are all chanting their mantras (tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes…mmmmm) and sending all the good vibes they can towards Seattle. Best of luck, Flapper man, you deserve to feel great.
