Thanks for the note. All of the ducks are safe now. We did hire a trapping company, but canceled them early, as we’re not interested in having extra raccoons euthanized for simply acting according to their nature.

Dear Tiffany,
I would like to say how sorry I am for your loss. I can only imagine how you are feeling at this time. Even though we all, unfortunately, go through loss of a loved one at some point in our lives, we all feel it in a very personal and unique way. Please know that my thoughts are with you.
I would also like to offer my help regarding the safety of the rest of your “kids”. A large part of my job at a local wildlife center is assisting people with ideas for keeping their pets safe from injury and predation by wildlife.
I also offer humane, non-lethal solutions to wildlife conflicts. Removing the wild animal almost never solves the problem. All it does is open up an opportunity for another animal. And it is an unfair outcome for the animal. Pest control companies are legally obligated to euthanize the wildlife they are hired to trap. Some of those companies use questionable methods of euthanasia.
I would really like to offer my assistance in helping you make the rest of your companions as safe as possible. Please email if you are interested!

The ducks are forever safe now – so no need to worry. Raccoons can come and go during the night or day and the ducks are in raccoon-proof pens.

I’m glad the raccoon was caught. I do hope you do keep the trap out longer throughout your 30 day contract just in case there are other bandit type mauraders taking a look at the fluffy, well fed ducks.

Ouch, but thank goodness you caught it. May I suggest leaving the trap another few days to make sure there are not more daytime marauders?

I know it must be hard getting rid of the raccoon especially since he’s just doing what is natural to him as he is a wild animal… but it’s what you have to do to protect your flock. It’s what any good ma’ma would do.

I hope O’Malley, Flapper, Chewy, and Petunia are doing a little better. My thoughts are with you all.

In our house, we have a rule – vermin that come into contact with us or our cats take their own chances. We don’t want any thing hurt, but if it strays into our space, it has to go. (Spiders may be the exception to this rule.)

You’ve done everything you could to keep your family safe, and I really hope you and the feathery friends feel better soon!

Poor raccoon. It’s manslaughter (voluntary or otherwise) not murder… but s/he was punished with death penalty.

I feel bad for raccoon, but I feel worse for flapper & co., especially Georgie and Toonie. So… sorry raccoon.

P.S. The raccoon looks like a masked bandit.
