I was wondering how the ducks were doing outside during this very cold weather and now I see that you brought them in. I should have checked the blog sooner, but Bella and Alice have been sleeping closed up in their 2×3x3 foot house over in Bellevue, WA. I’m bringing their water bucket in at night because it froze up the other day, but they seem to be keeping it fairly liquid during the day, and they stay out in their run attached to their house at least some of the time during the day. They are looking askance at all that white stuff outside, though. And more to come tonight! Alice is an 8 month old Cayuga and Bella is an 8 month old Golden 300 (who looks mostly like a Khaki Campbell hen, but with more lacing on her feathers).

Thanks for the great idea, Tiffany!! I just sponsored Cedar’s love, Frank, for a year’s care in Adrian’s honor. It’s part of his Christmas gift, since it was on his list to donate money for the care of wildlife. What a perfect way to honor this request and help a duck in need at the same time.

Fling, Thor, and Juno have become quite the tight flock these days. They are very well behaved, other than becoming a bit to free-ranging. They like to visit our neighbors and have started to expand their foraging zone to include lawns 2 or 3 doors away!! We’re working on devising a way to keep them a little closer to home. I’ll send you some photos soon.

Oooh I remember Harper. He was a big Kozmo guy. Part pekin, part muscovy. Farm Sanctuary is a great organization.

How thoughtful, Flap! Underneath that pampered-celebrity routine, you are a sweet, caring little dude, aren’t you?

Cedar’s a lovely girl. I love how they describe her: “quacks away all of her opinions about life, liberty, and the pursuit of algae-covered night crawlers.”

We sponsored a duck, Harper, at Farm Sanctuary last year. Harper was a survivor of the foie gras industry.
