Sprinkler Time

Flapper hung out on Sunday and played in the sprinklers.

He likes to stand right in the middle of the sprinkler to doodle in the mud and cool off.

Sam hadn’t played in the sprinklers before, so he stood guard to make sure everything was on the up and up.

Once he decided the scene was clear, he doodled in the puddles like a champ.

And then he chased Chewy just for fun.

Flapper shook off the sprinklers…

And then had a good flap.

Sam did some flapping, too…

…in both directions for good measure.

Nice flapping, Sam. You look super cute in the sunshine.
“Thank you, treat lady.”
Oh! I’ve been upgraded from mean lady who took you to the vet. That’s good!

Toony hung out on the deck and did a little yoga stretching.

Then she hung out in the aviary with O’Malley.

And ate some bugs and weeds.

She has laid 2 eggs so far this week. That’s pretty good, and we haven’t taken her for an x-ray because she seems to be doing well all on her own. You can see the egg on the right is a little odd in shape. But the 2nd egg looks much more normal, so we hope she is just fine.

Lastly, O’Malley was nice-enough to point out this fuzzy caterpillar to me, and I was able to get him before he became duck food. We released him in the duck-free zone. O’Malley wasn’t sure if he wanted to eat him anyway, as he was pretty fuzzy.
It was a good weekend all in all, for ducks and caterpillars alike.

In other news, I’ve started receiving a deluge of emails and notes about Joel the Spokane banker who catches ducklings as they jump off ledges. This is Joel’s SECOND year helping a mother duck and her ducklings make it safely from the ledge outside his office to the nearby lake. Here’s a link to the video of this-year’s ducklings for your viewing pleasure.

That Joel, he’s a good egg.

Looks like a wonderful weekend at Casa del Flapper! Everyone is squeaky clean again and had some worms to boot too:-)
Sam is setteling in quite well, he’s even climbing the ladder of success and now reached the point of being a sprinkler guard. Way to go Sam.
Beautiful pictures of the kids:-)
When I read that comment from Gayle (I think it was) I thought she had read some old news, I remembered the did it last year. What a sweet man:-)
Just watched the clip, this warms my heart, so many people caring for this single mom and her ducklings. So sweet:-)
The banker is a great duck catcher, I fear I may have dropped one or two.
Wonderful!
great photo of Flapper shaking the water off his head! and I love the photo of Sam in the foreground and Flapper in the back. very dramatic! also I’m glad to see that Petunia’s laying well
Looks like you guys had a great weekend enjoying the sunshine!!
That “Brake for Ducklings” sign was absolutely precious.
It’s good to see that Sam is adjusting well, and I”m happy to see that Petunia is making hen fruit. I’m deeply touched by your rescue of the li’l fuzzy worm.
Heres another duckling video. Super cute!

I think my favorite video of yours, Tiff, is the one where you’ve got the sprinkler but you don’t give Flappy a sprinkle until he makes the donkey honk. So cute.
“Treat Lady” — LOL. I’ve never noticed what color Sam’s eyes were until now. A warm brown — very handsome. But he shouldn’t chase the Chooster!
TooToo is quite good at yoga. Is she giving classes? I could probably stand to get into better shape.
You know, my Cayuga duck layed an odd-shaped egg a few years ago. We candled it just out of curiosity, and it had two yolks in it! It was one of the craziest things I’ve seen!
Just thought I’d share!
It’s nice to see Flapper enjoying himself so much. Sam looks so healthy and happy – what a change from when he first arrived! I think he’s liking this good life.
So glad to see the public support for the ducklings. Joel is a great guy!!!
Kelly, i loved your video. I hadn’t gotten to see the whole video. that was great to see so thanks for posting that. It’s unreal how it took hours for Joel to tend to those ducklings. I hope that all 12 make it through to adulthood.
Sam looks so cute in the sprinkler. Course the Flap does too.
One of the ducks we had growing up – the lady duck would lay eggs with no shell, just the yoke and white. I think you could say it’s less painful. LOL
Everybody looks so happy playing in the sunshin!! But where’s Lilly?
Jenn: Lily is around, she was just off bug hunting when I took photos.
I think I love Sam. Don’t tell Chewy.
i think joel made it onto http://www.cuteoverload.com last year but i cannot find the link.
if i ever make it to the west coast, can i kiss sam? i’ll bring treats and stuff.
as always, great pics!
Yard and Avery looks great Tiff! Love the way all your ducks have sufficient space and protection from a hostile environment (even each other!). Good job kid!
I meant “Aviary”! Sometimes hit “Enter” before I’m ready.
