A Forever Home for Lily & Sam
Lily & Sam head to a forever home on Sunday.

We’ve been looking for just the right one for about a month now. We thought maybe Happy Jack’s new home would work, but we never heard back from them. Then someone wrote saying their friends wanted Lily & Sam, but the timing wasn’t right for them. We found another couple who already had chickens, but they didn’t have a safe-enough environment.
Finally, we found a couple on Whidbey Island who have chickens and an older female silver appleyard duck, just like Lily & Sam. They also have a large yard area covered with string to prevent air attacks. How great is that?

It had to be just the right home situation for these characters. They’ve wormed their way into my heart, and I didn’t want to worry about them in their new life. They had a rough start and they deserve to live on Easy Street from here on out.

Lily? You take care sweetheart. I will miss your good hugs and your sweet face, kid. You’ve come a long way since I first met you.

Sam? You are a big lug of a lovable duck. I wish you tons of worms and treats in your new home. Take care of Lily, okay? And good luck with the new girl.

“A girl? Let’s go. I’m ready.”
No no, not ’til morning, Sam.

“Oh good. I have time to clean up first.”
Going to a new home is always an adjustment for ducks, but Sam & Lily are experts at new homes. They had their first home, which I don’t know about. Then their next home, where they were neglected. Then my home, where they got better. And now they’re off to their forever home. I’m taking them to their new home personally, along with a few of their creature comforts. Lily gets to take her nest and Sam gets to take some food and treats. Frankly, I think it’s going to be a tough adjustment for me, but not for them.
I’ll try to take some photos once they’re settled in, and their new family said they plan to send photos and updates from time to time.
It’s always tough to say goodbye, but especially this time. It’s for the best, to make room for the next rescues, but it’s still hard. I think back to when I first saw Lily, Sam & Jane and I can’t help but wish that their friend Jane could join them in their forever home tomorrow.
Good luck, Lily & Sam. I love you and wish you all the best with your new family in your new forever home.
XOXOX

AWE Tiff, shedding some tears. I understand the good work you do, but geez….I wish they could stay too.
You’re an awesome Mama and the ducks just thrive with your golden touch and your ever thumping big heart.
Good luck Sam, Lily and…..YOU.
We’ll be thinking of you. : )
The new home sounds good. You’ll know more tomorrow. If it doesn’t work out can you take them back? You have room to save two more unfortunate kids now. Good luck.
Yes, Joan. I always offer to take them back if it doesn’t work out, and I even have a backup home should that happen. I’ve never had to do that, but once I did bring one duck back with me for a week while I built her a predator-proof pen (she was very imprinted). This home sounds great so I have my fingers crossed that everything will go well.
Congrats, Sam and Lily. You will be missed! Good luck!
Congratulations all around: To Treat Lady, for working so hard in finding just the right new home; to Sam and Lily, for their good luck in finding Treat Lady, and for charming everyone; and also to Flapper, who was very graceful about sharing, when he really didn’t want to.
Awe, A bitter sweet goodbye, I get goosebumps.
I know this is hard on you, after all your care, your worries, your happiness over their recovery, the quarrels with the other residents, the fun times, the love and the laughter. But I guess it was in the cards.
I will miss them too. I hope they will be happy in their new home, I hope the new owners realize what special ducks they are and that they are resposable people and will love and care for them the way Lily and Sam deserve. They’ve come a long way, but I guess they are ready for their new endeavor.
Be well Sam, be easy on your new girlfriend, be happy Lily, try to share Sam, be hopeful Tiff, it will all work out.
Good luck kids, I hope to hear from you again from time to time.
One great thing about them finding a new forever home is that you can take in more rescue ducks. it does add variety to your web stories that we enjoy so much. I can’t wait to hear how Sam and Lily will be adjusting; especially that there is a girl involved. LOL
Awww, Tiff ~ I know you would like to be able to keep every one that comes your way. We all grew to love them too! I’ll be looking forward to updates now and then!
Congratulations Sam and Lily!
I am teary eyed too. I will miss your updates Sam & Lily and your cute little faces. Good luck in your new home I wish you both the best new forever home!
Aww, this makes me feel like I’m going to cry – so bittersweet. Best of luck to Lily and Sam, and please make sure that their new treat people send us some updates from time to time!
You’ve done a magnificent thing in rescuing and caring for Sam & Lily, Tiff. If I had a martini in hand, I’d raise it to your good health, but it’s a bit early in the day for boozing up.
Still, ladies & gentlemen – may I humbly suggest that we raise our cups o’ joe and toast Tiffany. May we all be as compassionate and as selfless.
Cheers to the Treat Lady!
your such a good duck mom tiff! Im sure they will love their new home. Very cool to live on an island! Im gonna miss watching their duck schienaigans on the web cam.
Best Wishes to Sam and Lily for a lifetime of happiness in a loving new home, new friends, and lots of treats of course! It has been absolutely amazing to watch Sam and Lily’s recovery from where they started when you first took them in, to where they are today. It’s heartening to know that there are good folks out there like you who do what they can to help out ducks in bad situations, and help them to recover and thrive. Take care.
Tiff, I’m going to miss them too! I thought they were already at their forever home (yours)!! Best wishes to them, it sounds like they are going to a great place. And good on ya to you, because wow, you did an EXCELLENT job nursing these two back to health. You’re an amazing gal.
We’re gonna miss your clever comments and winning ways Sam and Lily! Best wishes and extra peas as you go to your forever home, extra cuddles and human peas (a.k.a. chocolate) for Ms. Tiff.
We’ll miss you Sam and Lily but congratulations on your new home!
Goodbye Lily and Sam…… You two are little fluffs of love. *hugs*
