Quarantine Kids

The quarantine kids are doing pretty well.

They have their own spot on the lawn and a wading pool and dust bath area that are separate from my own ducks.

I can’t tell which end is which, but here Olivia enjoys a bath in dirt.

“They bathe in dirt? That is messed up.”
Flapper can’t quite grasp the point of chickens, yet. But he’s coming around.

Sunny of course enjoys a regular bath in water, since she’s a duck.

Olivia is a little wary of me, but she’s been better about letting me give her medication. And she even sat still while I cut poo out of her feathers today.

Racquel is very tame and friendly, and thinks I’m pretty nice, even though I give her pills.
All in all they are doing okay. The chickens should be pretty good after 10-days of medications, but Sunny is permanently handicapped, though I’m still not sure quite why. She will need a vet visit soon to make sure she doesn’t have any underlying illnesses that are causing her pain or discomfort. As long as she can get around okay and she isn’t in pain, she should do okay. Right now I think she has both pain and infection though. I can see it in her eyes. We should know more in a few weeks.

That Raquel is so beautiful. A friend of mine is into having pet chickens and has all kinds. She has one similar to Raquel.
Tif you take such great care to every detail for your guys and gals, including the temporary rescues. They all look happy and at home.
Have you dewormed Sunny? I can see too that she’s not completely well, but why do you keep calling her handicapped, what are the signs?
Good to hear the chickens are doing better:-)
Cutting poop out of feathers? Greater love hath no woman for her chickens….
Just wondering why you keep referring to Sunny as permanently handicapped. What do you mean? How can you know she’s handicapped if you don’t know what’s wrong with her? Or are you talking about two different things?
Thanks for all the work you do.
What are the signs she’s handicapped?? Sunny can’t stand up or walk much at all. Her previous owner said she’s been that way for awhile. The vet she took her too couldn’t find any reason, but she definitely has an infection and parasites for which she’s currently being treated. She’s over 6-years-old and I think she’s been lame for over a year.
Both chickens and the duck are on panacur for worms. They’re also on two other medications.
Don’t tell Raquel, but in my head she’s ‘Raquel L’oreal the fuzzy peanut’. Love her!
@ Silly Human: Not to mention the handicapped decal hanging from her rear view mirror…
You are awesome! I just found your blog today and your humor is so warm. What you do for your feathered friends is just incredible. I admire you so much.
I messed up a comment so am trying again here. Not sure where it went. EEJ, welcome to this awesome Mr. Flapper website. I love reading the Twitter comments at the top right from Flap. he is so funny, he and all his gang including the ‘chikins’.
Seattle/Puget Sound is hot HOT today; 90’s is a bit too much and no breeze. I think it’s suppose to go back to the 70’s by saturday. Hang in there Flap. We don’t care for it either and need ice cubes in our bathtubs.
Oh WOW, Racquel looks SO much better!! She is really thriving! I hope their poo’s are soon clean as a whistle . . . well . . . clean as a poop whistle.
