Frick & Frack
Well… not unexpectedly, Rex & Turk got themselves kicked out of their first home.

Their new humans tried everything they could, but it just wasn’t a good match. Rex & Turk have spent too much time attacking people to be placed in a home with other animals and small children. Not only was bossy Rex being bitey, but shy Turk liked to sneak up behind people and try to murder them… especially the small children. (Always watch out for the shy, quiet ones).
So they are being picked up Thursday.
They’ll probably come to Casa del Flapper for a bit, until we can find another forever home.
Muscovy drakes are notoriously difficult to place in permanent homes. I was hopeful at this first try, because the humans were willing to make every effort to make it work. But while they love Rex & Turk, they can’t have a dangerous situation at their home. Special thanks to them for giving it a good try. We hope those wounds heal really quick!
P.S. I am stopping off for a nice lunch at that good cafe in Duvall before picking up these lovable, killer nerdballs.

Ugh. Guys! What are you doing? A forever home means you stay put. They are nice to you, you are nice to them! That’s how it works!
Oh gosh. Is this typical of “wild” older ducks ? Maybe they’ve been on their own for too long.
I only hope and pray for the best outcome.
Once again….to bring them back to your guys..knowing what you know…even shows your bigger heart at attempting to save these two beauties.
God Bless and good luck, Tiff. Thanks for posting this to let us know.
Bummer. I hope you find the perfect fit for them really soon.
Now Boys!!! play nice
Lisa: They won’t be in with my guys, just to clarify. They will have their own aviary space. I can’t have them hurtin’ my Flaps & my Chews.
Well, poop. What naughty boys. As always, I marvel at your dedication, silly human!
Now, I know nothing of ducks, essentially, so why are Muscovy drakes notoriously difficult to place?
Your website has kicked my latent desire to have chickens into high gear. I have a safe spot of my yard in which to build a coop. Then I would keep my ear to the ground and keep my eye on craig’s list for chickens in need of a home. I used to want to go buy chicks from the East Bay Vivarium and give them a life instead of them going down a reptile’s gullet.
Anyway, good, patient, kind work, as always!
Hmm, maybe they just need a martini to chill out a little (I kid, I kid). Hopefully you’ll be able to find them a true forever home before too long, they sound like a handful!
As the great philosopher Ice-T said, “Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.”
Turk & Rex would have probably been different duckies had they not been conditioned to equate people with yummy yet heinous junk food. At least they got the bestest duck lady around to take care of them.
Be careful… and cautious.
Haha, the 2 boys played naughty so that they can get back to you!
Oh yeah I’m sure they missed the crazy lady that tackled them in the park and stuck them in carriers for a car ride.
I’m sad that this happened. I hope (probably futilely) that they won’t cause too much disruption in your already overburdened duck and chicken home.
Maybe a few days under O’Malley’s dominion will straighten them out.
Tif, did they get like that because of having to defend themselves after being dropped off at the park – having to defend themselves from dogs, people, raccoons? or are they naturally more aggressive like that?
They need bitey dinosaur duck Lexapro. For those nerves.
Or maybe a forever home with a flock of African geese (with the big knobs). They just look stern. That’ll keep em in line.
Muscovy drakes are naturally aggressive. They are also very sensitive and misunderstood. O’Malley bites and chases me pretty often. I compare them to toddlers who bite when they can’t express themselves, only muscovies are permanent toddlers. These muscovy drakes were probably dumped because they were normal muscovies: aggressive biters. But I’m sure that problem got worse once they associated people with junk food. Now instead of being aggressive with each other, they’re aggressive towards people and dogs, too.
I haven’t seen them be too aggressive with each other, which surprises me. When Frank the Tank was here, once he felt better he gave O’Malley hell every day. Yet Rex & Turk seem to mostly be at peace with each other, as long as they give each other space.
We’ll see what happens when they’re here. Oy, the fun.
Did I mention I have graduate school Friday, Saturday & Sunday?
I’m sorry it didn’t work out. Guys! You don’t know how good you could have gotten it! Darn. Thanks to these kind people for giving it a try, as much as I had hoped it would go well, you can’t have ducks bite your kids.
I think they will need a little therapy, though it may be a tough battle, they are fully mature and this behaviour may have been inprinted in their pretty little heads for too long.
Scovie drakes are the sweetest ducks I know, they are temperamental and short fused, but they are also very affectionate and intelligent (for a duck).
I connect really well with my drakes, though I have to keep them separated at all times or else they will try to kill eachother.
The reason why these guys don’t go at eachother’s throat is because there are no females, I think that is something to think about if you find a new home.
Either they go separate with some girls, or together with no girls at all. (I think the last option may be a good one).
Maybe they are so frustrated because they don’t have a mate, my guys get really wound up when they can’t mate.
Make sure the fence between your ducks and these guys is strong enough, specially to protect Petunia.
Good luck with them, but I hope you will find a good home for them soon. I guess you weren’t waiting for these beautiful (and I am sure sweet) boys to come to Casa del Flapper.
love the new names, but total bummer it didnt work out.
I can certainly attest to the level of their bites!! Rex pinched me pretty good many times.
so hope you can find them a home or homes soon, and hope they dont cause too much trouble with your residents in the mean time!
what a great experience it would be if I could take Rex in– Id love to attempt some clicker training on him, work on his biting. would be a great learning experience for me. but alas, I cannot, due to several large circumstances (no house, no yard, impending move to CA, and a Husky that WILL kill). I am going to be going into the animal biology/neurology program at Davis in a couple yrs (once I finish the GE reqs) and hope to work with animals of all types eventually..
anyhoo, keep up posted, and GOOD LUCK!
Oh my, O’Malley’s getting backup. Flapper and Chewy must be SO EXCITED (although I bet Tooney can take them down a peg or two). Hope this doesn’t end with a duck street gang plaguing your neighborhood.
Maybe a duck West Side Story? “Once you’re a duck you’re a duck all the way, from your first egg crack to your last…” well maybe not. Flapper & Toonie would make wonderful Tony & Maria.
