Muscovy Madness
In the fall when muscovies molt, they become a little kookie. A bit crazy. Full on wacky. The two rescued boys Turk & Rex are still here, growing new feathers so they can be placed in a sanctuary or a forever home. They don’t get along, and they don’t get along with O’Malley either. So three muscovy drake ducks molting at the same time is quite a sight. Have a look:
That’s O’Malley on the left. Turk on the right. And Rex facing both of the pens.
We hope to find Turk & Rex a great forever home as soon as they have their new feathers fully grown (probably another month). Until then, we’ll put up with all three boys threatening each other, constantly. My guess at a translation would be, “Oh no you di-int!”
Oy.

Holy cow!!! They are so intense! I’m sure it makes pen maintenance SO much more interesting. I suggest full hockey goalie gear!
Very good entertainment!
Looks like they were rapping. Hammer time!
We were reminded of The Backstreet Boys!
That was hilarious. Boys are sure crazy!
I can’t stop watching this. LIke a bunch of teenage boys trading yo’ mamma jokes.
Hee hee! They’re adorable! And I’m sure they’re aggravating, too.
This is both endearing and terrifying.
I was watching the duck cam last night before it got dark and could see i think the Flapper flapping his wings at one of these guys, but i’m not sure. I love watching their bums in the video. They get the whole body involved in this moulting stance. LOL
Muscovy drakes are the sweetest, most clingy and lovable ducks on earth, but on their own, not in a crowd (of drakes;-) This is so familar, my boys are the same way, constantly impressing the other, open invitation for a fight, keeping the other under their thumbs…. You see why I have to keep my boys separated, let them loose and one will get terribly hurt.
I hope you’ll find good homes for them once they’re done molting.
Muscovy ducks always seem a little kooky. I had a pair when I was a kid, and every now and then they would seem to briefly freeze and go into a stupor. They would also bite very hard, and they were really good with faces; unfamiliar people going into the back yard would be met with the trademark raised head feathers, bobbing heads, and that hoarse cackling.
It’s like Rex and Turk are doing a weird little dance. Totally kooky!
