Donkey Honker

Flapper? Why don’t you show everyone your impressive “donkey honk” move?

“Okay. Are you ready belly?”

“Haaaaaarumph!”
Good one, Flapper! I am impressed.
Flapper makes that “donkey honk” move when he is trying to get my attention away from the other boys. I think it’s such a funny move. Once he has my attention he will either make a “bwah” sound and rub his belly or he will preen behind one wing and fluff up his head feathers. Sometimes I can get four or five “wing thingies” out of him, when he’s really trying to impress me. Right now both he and Chewy are trying to impress me and Petunia, since we’re the only girls around. Petunia is happy with just O’Malley though, and O’Malley gets very angry when the boys hit on his girlfriend. So mostly they just try to impress me and my shoes. Today I saw Chewy make the “donkey honk” move himself for the first time, but I didn’t catch it on camera. It’s such a silly move, but I guess it impresses the ladies.
Here’s a collection of all of Flapper’s “donkey honks” through the years.

April 2009.

July 2008.

February 2008. Look, there’s Eddie!

October 2007.

January 2007. Awww, we miss those kids who’ve passed away.

July 2006.
I’m still impressed after all these years, Flapper.
Spring must be right around the corner if Flapper and Chewy are honking to impress the ladies. Stay tuned, and keep honkin’.

your flock has totally impressed a very far Duck Lady, too….my dear Tiff..
completely seduced. -.-
This must be the duck equivalent of men standing up straight and sucking up their bellies upon seeing bikini girls on the beach… very cute, Flapper and Chewy!
Who is the duck behind Flapper in Oct 2007? It looks too small to be Kozmo.
My boys do this too, and I have always wondered what they are doing–every day when I get home from work, they first stand up as tall as they can, and “sing” for me, and then pull out this move–it cracks me up! Thanks for the clarification Mr. Flapper–you are very handsome!
It’s great to see Eddie in the background! That must have been right before he flew down here (with a little help). I see he learned from the master. Eddie is a master donkey honker, but he reserves his honking for while he’s on the pond.
It brings new meaning to the old bumper sticker- “Honk if you’re ……” Well, if you’re old enough, I’m sure you remember what it said!
Honk on boys, honk on!

Maybe Peepers the conure is trying to impress me when he sits on my shoulder and makes his “bwaaaaaaaah bep bep bep SCREEEEECH” sound. He then grooms the underside of his wing. To me it’s the parrot equivalent of picking his armpit — not that sexy. But what do I know?
It’s also hard to be suitably impressed with anything when your ear is ringing.
Excellent honkin’, Flap!
Way too cute. Talking of spring – It was pretty warm last night. Yesterday even got to 59 degrees. Amazing for Seattle in January. Love you Flaps…
I don’t know what it is but I just busted up laughing. This made my night =D
And to top it off flapper is so adorable.
