Late Night Surprise
“My people came outside late tonight to surprise me. Here’s some dark video footage of my surprise.”
“I’m six years old now!”
Yep, Flapper is 6-years-old. Here’s a look back at every birthday we’ve had together so far.

I missed Flapper’s hatch day because I adopted him from a feed store in Lynnwood, WA when he was a few days old. As you can see, he was quickly walking all over me, and cute as a bug.

By his first birthday, Flapper was starting to gain some notoriety around the duck circles, and had quite a few friends. He’d also met his first sweetheart, Georgie.

By his second birthday, Flapper and Georgie had had ducklings together, and he had developed a bit of an addiction to french fries. I guess we could call this his wild youth phase.

By his third birthday, Flapper was a little older and wiser… but still a goof ball. He has always been sweet and friendly, but this was when he started to calm down a little bit and spend more quality time with me.

By his fourth birthday, Flapper had really come into his own as a super celebrity ducky. His blog was becoming a big hit and he’d even been on the local news. But somehow he kept the fame from going to his head, and was still a real down-to-earth kind of guy.

By his fifth birthday, Flapper had gone through some health troubles, but come out okay. He was sweeter than ever, and a real snuggle duck. I was worried about his long-term health, but thankfully he has surprised me time and time again.

And this year? This year Flapper took his celebrity and used it to help other animals by becoming a protester against the cruel torture of ducks to make foie gras. I have to say, I’m really proud of him. He is a calm, sweet, happy kid who brings out the best in everyone he meets. He is a joy to be around and I look forward to talking with him every single day.
Knowing Flapper has been the very best thing ever. He’s a magical little creature wrapped in feathers, and an amazing, precious friend.
I’m so lucky to have him in my life.
Happy birthday, buster.
XOXOX

Flappy Birthday big boy, I hope you’ll have a wonderful day and Tiff will even spoil you more than normal; bring on the waffles and fries!
Hip hip hooray from all your Scovie friends at Foppe’s Acre:-)
Such a cute and handsome ducky; each of the pictures is fabulous!!
Happy hatchday Flapper
Regarding the foie gras, it drives me up the wall but I live/work with quite a French people and trying to force a change of mindset in this area seems to be a lost cause. For one thing, they don’t give much of a crap about anything besides “does it taste good” to begin with (as a vegetarian I routinely run into wide-eyed wonder and “so you only eat grain?” type comments there, i.e. it’s just like in other countries about 15 years ago, and the foie gras on holidays there is pretty much like thanksgiving turkey or whatever beloved specialty elsewhere). Sooo as much as I love my French friends, this is frustrating.
But maybe the first step can be made by driving export sales into the ground.
You go, Flapper!
Happy Birthday, Mr Flapper! May you and your human enjoy many many many birthdays together!
Sorry, that was supposed to be “quite a few French people” in the above comment.

Flapper, you have brought much happiness to all our lives. I look forward to looking in on you every day. Happy Birthday Flap and may you have many more good, healthy years.
What a sweet gesture of you both to protest against the cruel torture of ducks. Do you know that in Belgium we can buy a kind of fake “foie gras”. It’s a vegetarian version. Actually, I even don’t know how foie gras tastes, I have never and will never eat it.
Give your magical little feathered little critter a big hug from me.
That there may follow many more happy birthdays .
You are lucky to have him in your life (oh, I wished …). Nourish every moment you have together!
Happy birthday Flapper!
Big hugs
happy birthday flappy!!
such a cutie
Hi Tiffany,
I just love the picture of you and Flapper together. A wonderful depiction of a woman who loves her duck(s)!

It was so nice of you and Flapper to protest against foie gras. Animals are wonderful. You take such good care of your kids. Thanks.
