Holiday Lights

This weekend we hooked up the holiday lights on the aviary and night pens. This lets the ducks and clucks have a little light until I get home from work, especially after daylight savings ends.

We also finally hooked up the Havahart electric fence, too. This means when raccoons try to climb on top of the aviary from the back or side (where they have been seen climbing) they will get a nice shock. It won’t hurt them, but it’ll definitely leave an impression. We hope this will stop them from chewing on the aviary netting and give us even more peace of mind that the ducks and clucks will be okay in the aviary in the winter evenings.
We know it’s working, because we bought the live wire tester. But I guess we’ll know if it’s really working if we don’t find any chewed holes in the net again.

Anything to keep my sweet buddies safe.

Electric fences are illegal where I live. We use the old fashioned method of running outside to holler at them and scare them away. The neighbors would probably prefer the electric fence!
Yup, we are in the hollering/pot banging group. We had a skunk this weekend…we didn’t know whether to yell at it or just let it be. We decided to just shine a bright flashlight on it until it decided that our place wasn’t a good place to hang out.
Ooh, the yard looks pretty.
Flappy sure looks happy, tucking his beak into mom. What a sweetie.
Always looking for something new to buy. Looks like this might be it.
