Scar tissue in ducks is kind of a solid, rubbery type of stuff, not a liquid/puss like in humans. The solid, rubbery stuff builds up and has to be cleaned off so it doesn't block his entire system and make it impossible for him to poop. He gets anesthesia for it and it doesn't seem to cause him much discomfort. He also has antibiotics for a week afterwards and pain/anti-inflammatories every day for his arthritis. He'll get over it;-) Bummer that it takes this long though. Diets are hard to do, weight is a problem for arthritic hips but in all good for his overall health. It's difficult to find a balance.
